Latest piece.

Here's a som'bitch I drew up for a Portland zine called The Stumptown Underground.  Every month they have a theme and take submissions, then publish the madness.  The theme was mythology!

I was about three months late...

Bummer for them eh?

So this guy was a result of my desire to draw my hero Martin Walkyier one of the great founders of folk metal.  The band, Skyclad, blasted through the 90's under his leadership, and didn't do well at all... which has earned them the title of the most underrated band in history.

Bummer for you eh?

I wanted to do something original (well other then putting Martin's huge face in the image) by mixing original themes like the Celts, John Bauer, Mother Earth... Aw hell, there's nothing original about this bastard!

So I got candles on his head saying something about illumination, the tree nymph in the window has hair that turns into water coming out of her head, watering her roots to feed the foliage up above her head, which is a continent.  Probably the place where the woman (total John Bauer rip off) and the boy (Celtic jag'off) are from, or are going.  Throw in some Romenesque designs, Art Nouveau, and a little Finder* symbol and bam!  you got mythology!

I'm starting to like it less the more I talk about it.

Bummer for me eh?
-Chris

*Finder is a comic by Carla Speed McNeil.  Look into it!

Here's a wacky detail.
